Boys might enjoy rough and tumble activities but they enjoy designing too, especially when it comes to their own rooms. These days' boys are more opinionated than they used to about their bedroom decor. Not only that but parents can get really creative here and maybe at the same time reminisce about the things they enjoyed as children too.

Lots of themes work well in boys' bedrooms. The main thing is that the theme should reflect the boy's personality. When it came to decorating their nursery, the infant was too young to choose. Now, the child can really express himself.
Most young boys just love bugs, so this could be a good theme to try. Remember how often your boy dug around outside, bringing bugs back to show you. Accessories which work well here are framed insect pictures, a frog lamp and netting in the corner.
Another classic theme for boys is auto racing. How often has your boy raced around the house making car noises? So consider putting in a car bed, shelves for his collection of cars, car posters and even a checkered flag.
Little boys all love dinosaurs. At first they love the friendly, cute cartoon version, then move on to the ferocious, man eating type. This phase may not last long, so if you choose this theme go for inexpensive pictures and bed linens which can be easily changed later.
Another popular theme is outer space. What boy hasn't been fascinated by the mysteries of space at some stage? You can create this look with a rocket headboard for the bed, dark blue walls and space themed linens and wall borders. If you think back to school and science fair projects you could probably create a model solar system with foam craft balls and paint.
Which boy doesn't enjoy sport? You can have fun making a headboard with bats, then add display shelves for baseball cards, balls, trophies and gloves, and a baseball lamp.
Your boy's room needs to be personalized, and one good way to do this is to put up some framed pieces of his own artwork. Display items to celebrate his own sporting victories, such as medals, team jersey and ball, together with a team photo.
Another great way for your boy to express his own personality is with area rugs. Get him to help choose the purchases for his room, including the area rugs. When it comes to an area rug, he can choose his favorite textures or colors. Bear in mind also that the rugs should be easily cleaned and durable, as well as fitting the colors and theme of the room.
Parents can get their boy to help decorate his room, too. Don't believe the common theory that boys don't care how their room looks, because this is changing these days. Boys need to have a room which reflects who they are, and the things they like.
